Friends, in today's post, we will talk about what is VPN (Virtual Private Network)? In today's time everyone uses mobiles and computers, so what are VPNs? It is very important for all of us to know what VPN is required and how VPN works. Friends, let's try to know what VPN is.

Virtual Private Network, VPN

What is VPN (Virtual Private Network)?

Virtual Private Network, or VPN, provides an Encrypted Connection from device to network to the Internet. Encrypted Connection helps the user to ensure that his sensitive data is securely transmitted. It also protects unauthorized people from traffic eavesdropping and allows the user to work remotely. VPN technology is widely used in corporate environments.

Virtual Private Network

This is a technology of Computer Network that provides Secure Connection between Public Network and Private Network. For example, suppose there is a company and it has many different branch offices in the same city, if the connectivity of all the offices is done through internet, then the unauthorized person can access the data of the company. If the company wants to establish its own Wired Connection from one Office to another, then it is Secure but it is very Expensive but it is not Reliable even if there is a problem in the wire, Particular Office Head Office and other Company Disconnect from Office completely.

To avoid all these problems, today companies, education institute, government organization provide access to their servers to their branch office or remote users using VPN technology. With this technology, the sensitive data of companies is transmitted through Safely Public Network.

Why do I need a VPN?

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to make a secure connection to another network on the Internet, Virtual Private Network uses some restricted zone or area. That's why in today's time people use VPN to access their private network through public network.

  • Hide your IP address - Connecting to a Virtual Private Network(VPN) often hide your real Internet Protocol Address (IP address).
  • Mask your location - With a VPN, any user can choose the country of origin for their Internet connection.
  • Change your IP address - using Virtual Private Network  will almost certainly result in getting a different IP address (Internet Protocol Address).
  • Access blocked websites - Get blocked website, which blocked by any governments with a Virtual Private Network.
  • Encrypt data transfers - It will protect the data. Encrypted Connection helps the user to ensure that his sensitive data is securely transmitted

How does a VPN work?

A VPN extends a corporate network through an encrypted connection over the Internet. Because the traffic between the device and the network is encrypted, the traffic remains private as it travels. An employee can also do his work from outside the office as he can securely connect to his corporate network through VPN. Even smartphones and tablets can connect via a VPN.

When you connect your computer (or any other device, such as a smartphone or tablet) to a VPN, the computer functions as if it were in a Local Area Network. All your network traffic is routed over a secure connection to the VPN. Since your computer behaves as if it is on the network, this allows you to securely access your Local Network Resource even when you are at the other end of the world.

When you browse the web while connected to a VPN, your computer contacts the website through an encrypted VPN connection. VPN forwards the request to you and forwards the response from the website through a secure connection. If you are using a USA-based VPN to use Netflix, then Netflix has your connection coming from within the USA.

Type Of Virtual Private Network Protocols

01 | PPTP - PPTP has been around since the days of Windows 95. The main point of PPTP is that it can be setup on every major OS. In short, PPTP is a Pint-to-Point connection over the GRE protocol. Unfortunately, the PPTP protocol is not the safest.

02 | L2TP / IPsec - L2TP over IPsec is more secure than PPTP and provides more features. L2TP / IPsec is a way to implement two protocols simultaneously to get the best features of each. For example, the L2TP protocol is used to create Tunnel and IPsec provides a secure channel. These measures effectively make for a safe package.

03 | Open VPN - OpenVPN is an SSL-based virtual private network that is very popular nowadays. It is an Open Source software and is freely available. SSL is a mature Encryption Protocol, and OpenVPN can run on single UDP or TCP ports, making it highly flexible.

Types of VPNs (Virtual Private Networks)

VPNs are divided into 3 categories according to their role in business. These categories are given below.

01 | Remote Access VPN

Through the Remote Access VPN, any Employee or Worker Organization's network can access anytime and anywhere. These Employees Workers can use all the resources available in this network.

The network of any organization remains secure, there can be no Host Connect from any outside network. When a host connects via Remote Access VPN, the VPN represents it as if it is a Local Host.

02 | Site to Site or Intranet VPN

Through Site to Site VPN that different Offices of Organization establish connection with each other through a Public Network like Internet. Site to Site VPN makes the resources of one Office available to the Hosts of another Office.

03 | Extranet VPN

When an 0rganization works together with another organization, it can use Extra-net VPN in such a situation. With this type of VPN, one organization can provide limited access of its resources to another organization.
