Artificial Intelligence or A.I has the potential to revolutionize our world. The way we do things and how we live and you can say that it's already started to do that A.I will be one of those big tools that propels  us into a new future like computers and the internet did decades ago recently. We have seen many examples of neural nets in particular from speeding up video games production and making graphics more realistic to solving age-old physics problems like the three- body orbit problem, so that's all well and interesting but we have recognize that today in the field of A.I we have building off the shoulders of gaints.
So the question must be asked "Who Is Those Original Giants", "How Did Artificial Intelligence 
Come To Be", "Who Were The People That First Dreamed Their Computers Could Think For Themselves", "Who Are The Pioneers Of A.I".

The Origin Of Artificial Intelligence

As soon as the computers came into existence, scientists began fascinating about how they could revolutionize our world. Even in 1960s they theorized that one day computers would be able to think for themselves. There are many pioneers that laid the foundation of A.I even as far back as 'Aristotle'
introducing associationism in 300BC and this would start our attempt to understand the human brain; but in this blog, but in this blog we have going to focus more on the more recent notable contributions.

Frank Rosenblatt - The First Pioneer 


PerceptronThe so called fathers of A.I is Frank Rosenblatt. The first attempt and the beginning of A.I all starts with Psychologist " Frank Rosenball " in 1957 in the time he developed, what was called " Perception ". Perception was a digital neutral network that was designed to mimic a few brains neurons.
Frank's first task for the networks was to classify images into two categories. He scanned in the images of men and woman and he hypothesized that over time the network would learn the difference between men and woman or at least see the patterns that made men look like men and women like women. Just a year later the media caught onto the idea and the hype was strong.

Unfortunately for Frank Rosenblatt despite the higher his neural network system didn't work very well at all this was because he only used a single layer of artificial neurons making it extremely limited in what it could do and even worse. There wasn't much that could be done about it at that time. Computers of that day could only handle this simple setup. These problems were never solved and by 1969, the computer science community had abandoned the idea.

Problems with Frank Rosenblatt Single Layer

Geoffrey Hinton and his team quickly realized that the problem with Frank Rosenblatt single layer approch was that more layer were needed in the network to allow for much greater capabilities and the computers of that day were not powerful enough to handle it. This multi-layer approach solved the problem that Frank Rosenblatt had. Today we call this multi-layer approach " A Deep Neural Network ".

Geoffrey Hinton - The Father Of Artificial Intelligence

Everyone may have given up on the idea but decades later a computer scientist by the name of " Geoffrey Hinton " thought that everyone else was just plan wrong. He theorized that the human brain evidently made for an incredibly powerful system to him, this was as much proof as he needed. Artificial neural network had to work somehow maybe they just needed, some tweaking. Geoffrey Hinton saw the genius in the idea that everyone else missed.

Nodes and Weight

Just for clarification " NODES is a artificial neurons " and " WEIGHT represents the strength of the connection between neurons (Nodes) ". Weight can be changed to do learning and what a neurons does is take the activites on the connections times. The weight adds them all up and then decides whether to send an output and if it gets a big enough sum, it sends an output and if the sum is negative, it does not send anything and all you have to do is just wire up a gazillion of those just figure out how to change the weight and it'll do anything. It's just a question of how you change the weight.

Yann Lecun - The Pioneer

In 90s a man by the name of Yann Lecun would build a program which recognized handwritten digits. This program would go used widely buy Yann Lecun would also go on to be an A.I. Pioneer in his own right. Lecun would study under Geoffrey hinton and would lead the research that made " Hinton's theory of Backpropagation "
Backpropagation is simple terms is the process of computers learning from their mistakes and hence becoming better at given task much the same way humans learned from trial and error.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence has rapidly grown of less than two decades from the fringes of science to the centerpiece of the world. Without the work of the pioneers who refuse to give up our future may be very different  perhaps we do not fully understand the potential of A.I. but nonetheless it should be obvious that their work has created a significant point in human history much like the invention of fire, the wheel, electricity, computers and the internet. Artificial Intelligence will be one of humanity greatest tools. Duties back conditioned Geoffrey hinton hasn’t sat down for the last 12 years. At 71 we hope Hinton will keep standing for many more years to come, while artificial intelligence is helping many people today. We can only that will continually be used for good in the future.
